In function of the type of application, we choose to work with reflectors, lenses or the combination of the two in a so called catadioptric or hybrid approach. Delta Light develops the optical system in-house or in close partnership with top optical engineering companies. The optics are conceived early in the design phase to ensure  that both aesthetical and functional aspects are fulfilled.

Optimal light quality

Delta Light’s engineering team is constantly looking for the best design that factors in energy efficiency, optimal light quality and ease of use. They have created an architectural lighting collection that lets our customers create different lighting atmospheres to show architecture at its best angles. We offer everything from accent lighting to ambient lighting, wall lighting, orientation lighting, and lights for open spaces. Customers can choose from a wide range of light beams, filters, lenses and other accessories.

In the selection of the optical system, we keep an optimal balance between the projected light effect, the visual comfort and the aesthetics of the product.

Versatile light distributions

Delta Light knows the needs of the lighting designers in the field. Therefore we use various products that feature the LED Caset technology, such as in the Fragma family. The LED Caset technology combines multiple LEDs with individual collimation lenses and microlenses for each LED, resulting in an extraordinarily honed and uniform beam. The individual lenses produce a layered light distribution effect and give a sharp beam angle of 8° or 14°. Other beam angles or lighting effects are perfectly possible by adding micro lenses on the front. This gives the lights higher efficiency and better visual comfort.

By adding a microlens to the front of the light fixture, a narrow beam distribution can be transformed into other wider or asymmetric light beams, such as flood, wide-flood, elliptical and wallwash. The microlenses are very easy to change on site without tools. Besides the versatility to create other light effects, the microlenses provide a high colour-over-angle uniformity, which translate in no colour differences in the projected beam.

Ultra narrow beams

Delta Light's optical technology makes it possible to create any atmosphere you like. We push – in association with our LED suppliers – the borders of the technology to get LEDs with very high brightness, excellent colour quality and outstanding thermal management. This allows us to generate ultra narrow beams with a descent lumen output in a rather compact size and ensure a long lifetime for the product. This sharply defined beam can send a pinpoint of light to strikingly illuminate the smallest objects or create a theatrical lighting effect.

Smooth Wallwash effect

At the other end of the spectrum, our wallwash optics project light onto vertical surfaces. Our partnership with Bartenbach makes it possible to jointly design a series of products where material science and optical mechanical design are combined. The result is a product which is fully recessed into the ceiling and perfectly illuminates vertical surfaces uniformly. There are different shapes, sizes and installation options that will fit any lighting project flawlessly.

Materials

One of the design mottos is the miniaturization. Miniaturization is enabled by using the latest technologies in high brightness LEDs (a lot of light per surface area); however, the confinement of larger amounts of power in a smaller compartment demands the usage of optical materials that can withstand high temperatures. We are introducing novel materials with optical transparency and capacity to resist high temperatures. This allows us to ensure larger lifetimes for our fixtures.

Engineered spectrum

Lighting does not only affect the visual tasks, but also the physiological and psychological aspects of the end-users. Therefore, based on results from the research projects by us in association with academic and manufacturing partners, we engineer the right colour spectrum of light for the right moment and space. The engineered spectrum does not only involve the light source, but requires the optics to properly mix the different colours while preserving the aimed light effect.

Measuring infrastructure

With state-of-the-art measuring systems, we are able to get the needed inputs for the optical design, generate the light simulation models for the lighting designers and control the quality of our products. All our labs work according to the ISO 17025 in order to ensure the quality and traceability of the measurements.
